Samherji hf. has finalized buying a ship from the Shetland Islands. The ship was built in Norway in the year 1998.  It is 71 m long and 13 m wide and especially equipped for pelagic fishing. The main engine is Wärtsilä 18V 32 8200kW/750 rpm and RSW tank capacity is 2100 m3

The ship, now named Serene LK-297, will be arriving in Akureyri tomorrow Tuesday but will exchange ownership later in the week. It will be named Margrét EA-710 but Samherji has owned a ship by that name for 20 years. The ship will be going on its first fishing trip for Samherji within the next couple of weeks.

In order to provide good working environment for the employees and to increase the company’s competitiveness Samherji has always endeavored to have the best and most advanced equipment both in fishing and processing. The purchase of Serene is a part of a necessary renovation of the Company’s fleet and in due course one of the older ships is expected to be replaced by this new ship.
