Two of Samherji´s employees took part in The Arctic Open Golf Championship on June 26th-28th and both of them won an award. Halla Sif Svavarsdóttir was third in the womens group and Hafþór Jónasson was third in the seniors group. The tournament was very enjoyable and the participants experienced playing in the midnight sun, like this beutiful picture of Halla Sif shows.

"Óþokkar" in "The Thor soccer championships"
Samherji´s soccer team, Ungmennafélagið Óþokki took part in "Pollamóti Þórs", last weekend in Akureyri. UMF Óþokki was drawn in an unusually strong squad, a "deathsquad" as they described it but still achieved all the objectives set for the championships. (which were: 1.to score 2. to win 3. to be the best team 4. to be by far the most bautiful team)

As always the main emphasis was on beautiful attire and all the fans agreed on, that the Óþokki team excelled in gorgeousness both in and out of the field. One of the sponsors exploited this and used a photograph of the team in a promotion in one of the Superstores over that weekend and a few of the team members also assisted, surrounded by admireres.

The first game was against Úrvalsliði Halla Gunnþórs and in spite of our men being better most of the time, they lost 0-1. Jakob Atlason only played for 4 minutes in this game, had to retire because of injuries, but was still voted the Middleman of the tournament by the selection committee of UMF Óþokki for his performance. The next game was against "a semiprofessional" team of Akranes and the result was 0-4. The man of the game was undoubtedly the goalkeeper Sigurvin Jónsson who was busy in the goal in spite of unbelievable struggle by the rest of the team. Sigurvin who is both a wonderful goalkeeper and the funniest man in Iceland was voted The Best player of the Tournament by the Selection committee. The team´s first and only victory came in the next came against UMFB when Birgir Össurarson became the team´s Goalscorer from a crossing by Guðmundur Baldvin Guðmundsson who was voted The Striker of the tournament. Óþokki lost again and now against Reynir S., result 0-2 but still reached 4th position of the squad and into the 32 teams finals. Víðir Garði was the opponent in the final game and our men barely lost 0-5. Steingrímur Pétursson was voted The Defender of the team for remarkably beautiful headers from the goal and significant defence playing. The rookie Jón Kjartan Jónsson who was taking part for the first time, received the most sought after title awarded by The Selection Committee "The sexiest player".

Óþokki whishes to thank the encouragement from the members of the Sportsteam "Charm" (a fellowship of Samherji´s graceful women)
