Seagold Ltd., Samherji´s sales company in Great Britain has moved within the Hull area.  The office has been situated in the town center of Hull since founded in May 1996 but has now been moved into a 100sq meters office space in Hessle, a small town in the suburbs of Hull.

Gústaf Baldvinsson, General manager of Seagold and Sales & marketing Manager of Samherji, says that the location in the outskirts of Hull has its advantages as against the town center where it is often difficult to get a car park.  The accessibility in the new place is much better than before, both for the staff as well as the customers.

The Sales office handles sales of seafrozen products from Samherji´s ships.  Also from Akraberg which is operated by Framherji aps. In Faeroe Islands, Norma Mary, operated by Onward Fishing Company Ltd., Frosti ÞH from Grenivík as well as the ships owned by Deutsche Fishfang Union in Germany.
As previously mentioned Gústaf Baldvinsson is the General Manager of Seagold.  Birgir Össurarson also works in the office but he joined Seagold a few months ago as a result of increased business in the British market.  Besides the two of them Seagold also employs an assistant, Victoria Evins.

The new office is very pleasant

Seagold´s growth

“Seagold has been successful.  We have sold seafrozen products from Samherji in the British market, which is the biggest market for these products.  The turnover has grown between years and has reached around 25 milljon GBP a year.  "There is a great demand for cod at the moment, since the autumn has always been a good time for selling cod products.  The seafrozen fish is mostly sold in the “Fish & chips” market were the British people have an old tradition of eating fish as fast food” says Gústaf.

Apart from seafrozen products, Seagold also sells Samherji´s prawn products together with Royal Greenland.  “Great Britain is by far the biggest market for cold water prawns.  We have been successful in marketing prawns but it is first and foremost a question of price.  The prawn market has been a bit tight and does not seem to be growing.”

Well situated in the Humberside area

Gústaf believes it is very important to be situated in the Humberside area in Great Britain.  “Yes, it is very important.  The ships come in here, the freezing stores for the fish are here and many of the buyers are here.  I would say that Hull and Grimsby are the focal point in fish sales and distribution in Great Britain and having an office here is therefore important in order to gain good and personal contact with the customers" says Gústaf Baldvinsson.
