Trawlers Norma Mary and Vidir EA back from their last fishing trip

-          Both trawlers parked after years of successful fishing.
Two of Samherji´s oldest ships have now sailed the last fishing trip after a long and successful career within the Samherji group. They both have, from the beginning, been among the highest on the list of the country’s ships in total catch.
Norma Mary ex. Akureyrin was Samherji’s first ship. She has been operated by the company from the year 1983 and was one of the first in Iceland that was equipped to process and freeze the fish on board. Norma Mary is 1.318 gross tonnages, built in Poland in the year 1974 and lengthened in 1995. She was sold to Samherji’s daughter Company Onward Fishing Co. in 2002 and has been operated from Great Britain since then. The final trip was typical for her career; the ship was full of frozen products almost 450 tons worth over 300 million ISK. The Captain of Norma Mary for the last years was Mr. Asgeir Palsson.

The trawler Vidir ex. April HF was bought from Hafnarfjodur in the year 1985.  Vidir was like Norma Mary built in Poland in the year 1974.  It was lengthened and converted into a freezer trawler in 1991 and renovated in 2002. The Captain of Vidir was Mr. Sigmundur Sigmundsson.

These changes are a part of renovating the Company’s ships and adjusting the fleet to the fishing allowances.
